    Several of us at 9Marks recently spent a long afternoon with a wise old friend talking about the conversation evangelicals are having about the mission of the church. There are two basic mistakes people keep making in this conversation, said our friendly sage. On the one hand, some people pit good things against one another—bodies versus souls, this world versus the next, and so forth.   The Mission of God's People: A Biblical Theology of the Church's Mission | Christopher J.H. Wright. Wright provides a fascinating overview of the biblical story and how God calls and engages His people in mission. An eye-opening work for church members and church leaders, this is biblical theology at its best.

    Although books on missions abound, this one fills a void felt by any local church trying to discern how best to be involved in taking the gospel to the nations. Not only does it lay a much-needed foundation and framework for missions; it also answers the practical questions that inevitably arise.   It wouldn’t be fair to answer our question about missionaries from the book of Acts and from Acts 14 unless there is good reason to think this book and this text means to answer this sort of question. Let’s start with the book. Acts is the inspired history of the mission of the church.
